André Waiga

Inspired by great thinkers of humanity, André Waiga develops his craft as a sculptor with original creations, following a rigorous artisanal production process. His sculptures are meticulously modeled, respecting the most striking features of each character. The sculptor's interpretation seeks to reveal something of the personality of each figure through the expression lines, the look and the countenance. His busts attract attention for their fidelity and richness of detail, so that they inspire the art buyer in his intellectual pursuits. Big names in history have already been chosen by the artist and the selection of characters goes through criteria that combine personal interest and customer requests. After choosing a new character, Waiga says that, generally, simply collecting photographic references is not enough, as it is necessary to fill in the gaps caused by the lack of images of the characters. “I also try to imprint the strength of each personality, such as the benevolent irony of Socrates, the grandeur of Hippocrates or the despair of Nietzsche”, said the artist in a recent interview.

In a market taken over by unauthorized replicas and low-quality 3D prints, one aspect that draws attention to the artist's works is the finishing process and the rich details of his sculptures. Each bust produced receives special attention. For this, the sculpture is first manually modeled in plasticine, then cast by the cold-cast method, using P.U resin and bronze powder or mineral filler. The next step is the polishing, which guarantees exceptional. Finally, the bust is mounted on the synthetic marble base. All these details are produced in his studio. In this way, by using modern techniques in the making of his pieces, the artist made high-level statuary art available to the general public, interested in acquiring authorial works of art with superior quality. Waiga lives and works in Brazil.
